As part of our continued growth, we are currently seeking a Construction Manager – BESS to join our team in Mauritania and support the successful delivery of large-scale Solar PV projects.
Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager – BESS to oversee the construction and installation activities of a utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Mauritania.
The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary construction teams and subcontractors, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with technical, quality, contractual, and HSE requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage BESS construction activities from site mobilization through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Develop and implement construction plans, methodologies, work packages, and execution sequences.
- Supervise the installation of battery containers, battery systems, PCS, transformers, MV switchgear, HVAC, fire protection, control systems, and associated balance-of-plant systems.
- Coordinate civil, mechanical, electrical, and BESS installation activities and ensure effective interface management.
- Manage subcontractors and multidisciplinary site teams, monitoring productivity, quality, schedule, resources, and HSE performance.
- Monitor construction progress against project milestones and coordinate with Project Controls to identify delays, risks, and recovery actions.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Logistics, QA/QC, HSE, equipment suppliers, and Commissioning teams.
- Ensure compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, method statements, ITPs, manufacturer requirements, and HSE procedures.
- Coordinate equipment delivery, handling, storage, and installation, including specialized transportation and lifting activities where required.
- Support pre-commissioning, testing, energization, commissioning, punch-list closure, and project handover.
- Prepare and review construction progress reports, forecasts, site records, and handover documentation.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure appropriate controls are implemented for BESS-specific risks, including electrical, thermal, and fire hazards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 7–10+ years of construction management experience, preferably in utility-scale BESS or renewable energy projects.
- Proven experience in BESS construction, installation, and execution.
- Strong understanding of BESS systems and associated electrical, mechanical, civil, and balance-of-plant works.
- Experience with battery containers, PCS, transformers, MV equipment, HVAC, fire protection, and control systems is highly desirable.
- Proven experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary construction teams.
- Strong knowledge of construction planning, scheduling, progress control, QA/QC, and HSE.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, method statements, ITPs, and equipment documentation.
- Experience working with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and commissioning teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Primavera P6 knowledge is an advantage.
- Fluent English is required; French and/or Arabic is an advantage.
- Willingness to be based in Mauritania for the duration of the project.
