As part of our international growth, we are currently seeking a E&S Manager to join our team in Mauritania.
About the Role
As E&S Manager, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring the Environmental and Social performance of the project throughout the construction phase. You will ensure that project activities comply with applicable environmental and social legislation, project requirements, and relevant international standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and monitoring of the project's Environmental & Social Management Plan (ESMP).
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental and social legislation, permits, project requirements, and international standards.
- Monitor environmental and social performance across construction activities.
- Identify E&S risks, assess potential impacts, and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
- Monitor compliance with E&S requirements by contractors and subcontractors.
- Manage stakeholder engagement and support effective communication with local communities and relevant authorities.
- Monitor community health, safety, and social impacts associated with project activities.
- Oversee labor and working conditions, including workers' rights, accommodation, grievance mechanisms, and related social performance aspects.
- Establish, monitor, and maintain effective grievance mechanisms for workers and affected communities.
- Prepare E&S reports, KPIs, monitoring records, and management updates.
- Coordinate E&S audits, inspections, assessments, and corrective actions.
- Support environmental and social monitoring activities, including waste management, biodiversity, water resources, and other project-specific impacts.
- Work closely with the HSE team to ensure effective coordination between environmental, social, and occupational health & safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate E&S documentation and ensure timely reporting to project management and relevant stakeholders.
- Promote environmental and social awareness throughout the project team.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Social Sciences, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Proven experience in Environmental & Social management, preferably within renewable energy, infrastructure, construction, or energy projects.
- Previous experience on large-scale Solar PV, Wind, BESS, or other renewable energy projects is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of environmental and social management systems and international E&S standards.
- Experience with ESMP implementation, stakeholder engagement, grievance mechanisms, and E&S monitoring/reporting.
- Experience working with contractors, subcontractors, local authorities, communities, and other project stakeholders.
- Strong communication, reporting, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and international environment.
- Fluent English is required; French is an advantage.
- Willingness to be based in Mauritania for the duration of the project.
