BESS Design Engineer (m/w/d) in Hamburg

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a “BESS Design Engineer (m/w/d)” in Hamburg. Your chance to actively shape the energy transition! 

Location: Hamburg (Hybrid model with 3-4 days/week in the office) 

Your Responsibilities: 

• Electrical design and engineering of PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including single-line diagrams (SLDs), protection concepts, and system layouts 
• Sizing and design of cables, transformers, and medium-voltage grid connections 
• Conducting energy yield assessments and performance simulations using PVSyst 
• Creating layouts and Bills of Materials (BoMs) using PVcase 
• Preparing electrical schematics, technical documentation, and calculation reports 
• Coordinating with Project Managers, suppliers, and grid operators 
• Ensuring compliance with VDE-AR-N 4110/4120, IEC standards, and other relevant regulations 
• Supporting system optimization and technical analyses using Excel and Python 

Your Profile: 

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a comparable qualification 
• Initial professional experience in the design and engineering of PV and/or BESS systems, ideally in the utility-scale sector 
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (electrical layouts and schematics) and solid knowledge of PVSyst and PVcase 
• Understanding of BESS component design and integration, including inverters, BMS, PCS, and grid integration 
• Fluent English and good German language skills (minimum B2 level) 
• Experience with grid connection projects as well as EPC-related project workflows and interfaces in Germany or Europe is an advantage 
• Knowledge of medium-voltage systems and protection schemes is desirable, as is practical experience with Python for automating technical calculations 
• Structured, responsible, and solution-oriented working style
