INTEC Energy Solutions to Deliver Landmark 40.7 MWh Battery Storage Project for VPI in Germany
INTEC Energy Solutions (INTEC), a global leader in integrated renewable energy solutions, has been selected by VPI, a leading power company, to build a next-generation Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bad Wildungen, Germany. Designed to boost Germany’s grid flexibility and resilience, the project represents a major step forward in enabling the nation’s renewable energy future.
Spanning a site of approximately 3,000 m², the facility will have 40.7 MWh of storage capacity. The installation will feature 10 state-of-the-art CATL battery containers, selected by the client, and will be engineered for a minimum operational lifetime of 40 years.
INTEC will deliver the full Balance of Plant (BoP) scope, including Switching Substation (Delivery Station), protection and control systems, as well as civil works, commissioning, and grid integration, and all supporting electrical infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration into the German power grid.
The Growing Power of BESS in Europe’s Renewable Transition
INTEC is already delivering full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services for a 640 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Queensland, Australia, in partnership with a well-known global energy leader. Building on this experience, INTEC is now bringing its expertise to the European market. Battery Energy Storage Systems are increasingly essential to Europe’s energy transition. By storing surplus energy from solar and wind generation and feeding it back into the grid when demand peaks, BESS technology stabilizes grid frequency, mitigates supply fluctuations, and strengthens energy security.
Klaus Friedl, Managing Director Germany, stated, “We are building more than a large-scale battery system, we are building the foundation for a cleaner, more flexible, and more resilient energy system. BESS is the gateway to unlocking the full potential of renewables in our grids. Our global experience in BESS projects continues to expand, with additional projects in the pipeline. We are happy to partner with VPI, and we believe this collaboration will be long-term.”
Dr Theodor Borsche, Geschäftsführer of VPI in Germany said: “Hessen’s growing renewable energy output, combined with its critical need for reliable power, makes battery storage an essential part of the region’s energy future. These systems don’t just help integrate clean energy into the grid—they’re powering the digital economy and driving industrial growth. This project is the first in a broader pipeline designed to support Germany’s transition to a more flexible, resilient energy system. I’m grateful to the local municipality for their support in bringing this initiative to life. We’re now ready to break ground.”
