Project Overview & Capability
The Lower Wonga Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a major renewable energy project in Queensland’s Gympie region. Once complete, it will generate around 800,000 MWh annually, enough to power approximately 126,000 homes (equivalent).
The project is designed to use the sun to generate clean energy, save it for when it is needed most, keep the power grid running smoothly, and help out during peak demand. Developed by Lightsource bp, INTEC Energy Solutions is the primary EPC Contractor, leading the delivery of the energy facility through its design and construction phases. Our work focuses on the detailed design, integration, and optimisation of the solar and BESS infrastructure. The project will provide job opportunities for local trades and others, and strengthen the network reliability in Queensland, demonstrating INTEC’s commitment to delivering complex, utility-scale renewable energy solutions.

Project Scope
- Installation of approximately 500,000 solar panels on tracking systems, that will move with the sun for optimal energy generation.
- Civil works for major upgrades to existing roads, construction of internal access roads, and landscaping activities.
- End-to-end procurement of major plant, materials, and construction packages to support project delivery.
- Development of the electrical infrastructure required to integrate the facility with the existing grid connection.
- Design and construction of a hybrid energy facility made up of a 843 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and a 380 MW Solar PV generation system.
- Design and construction of a high-voltage substation bench to enable the solar and battery assets to connect to the transmission network at the required voltage level.
